PhD Course Requirements
Political Science doctoral students choose two of the following specialization areas:
- American Politics
- Comparative Politics
- International Relations
- Political Theory & Philosophy
- Political Psychology & Political Behavior
- Public Policy & Public Administration
Students are required to take three classes in each area and take a preliminary qualifying exam.
In addition, all students are required to take each of the following five research tools and methods classes:
- POL_S 501: The Scope of Political Science
- POL_S 502: Seminar in Normative Theory
- POL_S 503: Research Methods in Political Science
- POL_S 504: Quantitative Methods in Political Science
- POL_S 539: The Political Science Profession (1 credit pass/fail)
